Chairman’s Letter to A Disgruntled Poll Worker

Chairman’s Note:
Marilyn Flanary is the volunteer who coordinates all of the poll workers for the Durham County Republican Party.  She forwarded a note to me from one of her volunteers who was clearly disgruntled with the Republican National Committee for, amongst other things, losing this past election to President Obama.  In this note to Marilyn, this volunteer indicated that they were “done” with politics as well as “done” with the Republican Party.  Below is the note I wrote to the volunteer.  I post it here as a reminder to any who read this: If you are frustrated with the direction of this country or the direction of this state or the direction of this county, my challenge to you is simple: Have you manned a post?  Have you found a spot on the wall to defend?  Are you defending your post admirably? If yes, I thank you.  If not, please email me, and let me know that you’d like to assist in our endeavors.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Volunteer,
Marilyn forwarded me the note that you sent to her back on April 29th. First of all, I join Marilyn in thanking you for your service to free and fair elections.  There are too many people who never thank a military veteran, and there are far fewer people who have ever stopped to think of the countless folks like yourself who have served the free political process.  So I thank you.
That being said, I’d be remiss if I didn’t reach out to you and ask that you consider ignoring the Republican National Committee, the North Carolina Republican Party, Speaker Boehner, Speaker Tillis, Governor McCrory … and the list could easily go on.  I know all too well why you might be annoyed with one or all of them.  So instead of throwing in your towel, I ask you instead to focus your attention on Durham and the Durham County Republican Party.
