The League of Women Voters of North Carolina invites members of the Durham County Republican Party to attend a forum on Amendment 1 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on April 23rd at 5:30pm in the UNC ROTC Armory. It is being organized by UNC Professor Kenny Andrews Soc. 413 Service-Learning Group to provide a non-partisan setting to facilitate discussion of Amendment I.
Speakers from both sides (Equality NC, The Coalition to Protect NC Families, Reps of the LGBQT community, politicians, etc), will discuss the pros and cons, long term and short-term consequences of this amendment.

We have heard that there will only be speakers opposed to the amendment. None in favor.
Thanks for posting this announcement. I wish to clarify two things: 1) The amendment on the ballot is not properly titled “Amendment One”. It is actually titled, in the words of the NC House Republican Leader, “The Marriage Amendment”. It’s actual number and title is “General Assembly of North Carolina Session Law 2011-409: An Act to Amend the Constitution to Provide that Marriage Between One Man and One Woman is the Only Domestic Legal Union that shall be Valid or Recognized in this State”. 2) Speakers from both sides are not listed in the parentheses. The major groups favoring the Marriage Amendment are not even mentioned in this announcement. The League of Women Voters of North Carolina should be contacted for the complete list of “both sides” being represented at this “non-partisan” event.
